There's just something that's been really bothering me lately, so I'm gonna let it all out...

So, I don't know if any of you know about a disability called autism (which I have myself), but if you don't, then it's a disability that makes it difficult for people to act in social situations. But apparently, people don't use the word correctly, and it really pisses me off that they would think of it as a bad thing. Yes, there are people that use the word autism/autistic as an insult, usually to describe something that's stupid/dumb/"retarded". Well, guess what. THAT'S NOT WHAT IT MEANS!!!

Like seriously, look at these!

People, I'm trying to get my point straight here. Autism is a serious disability. It does NOT mean someone's an idiot. Know the REAL definition of the word before you use it.

Same applies for the word "retarded". It derives from Mental Retardation (another serious disability, which my uncle has), and it also shouldn't really be used as an insult.

Oh, and another thing before I end this. Videos are NOT autistic. Photos are NOT autistic. Books/Poetry/Music/Movies are NOT autistic. And this rant is NOT autistic either, so don't even think about it.

Okay, rant over.

I disagree with you far more than I thought I would.

Autism isn't and has never been a disability due to how so many factors that can or won't affect someone in their daily life.

Autism is just an umbrella term for any complication that affects the capabilities of a person when it comes to learning, socializing or handling their stress.

Attention Deficit Disorder fits in this umbrella term due to how they have a hard time sitting down for prolonged periods of time as well as having a harder time than the 'normal' people who don't have this.

Anxiety Disorders fit in this umbrella term due to how susceptible they are towards panic attacks for simple things like being in a crowded room or freaking out because a stranger touches them in a direct manner.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder fits in this umbrella term due to how they genuinely need to have certain things be set, organized and/or labeled in a very specific way due to their need for both order and structure in their daily lives.

While not all people who suffer from the examples I put are necessarily autistic, most autistic people tend to have behavioral traits that fit with these three and others as well.

As someone who managed to, fortunately, overcome my Attention Deficit Disorder with Mental Hyperactivity, I once fit in this umbrella term and was treated as such which did help me not only come to terms that I was and still am different from most people, but it also helped me in understanding my condition and find efficient ways to overcome my problems and get over them.
